Statistics

7/18/09 I am currently switching from MANA stats to AABC/UDS statistics program. I will be unable to update the birth center's statistics on this page until that is completed.

Sorry for the inconvenience

This page provides recommendations from the World Health Organization, and the Coalition for Improved Maternity Services. These are the goals for the safest, highest quality maternity care.

The 2003 National Vitals Statistics and the Listen to Women II Study show the most recent information regarding maternity care in the US. If the information is available for comparison between current and previous studies, that information is provided.

The statistics for Mother's Own Birth Center are provided for comparison.

The World Health Organization (WHO) sets the standard for excellence in maternity care based on the best research evidence available. These recommendatons are taken from a report on the Appropriate Technology for Birth, published by WHO in April, 1985.

CIMS suggestions-taken from The Mother-Friendly Childbirth Initiative from the Coalition for Improving Maternity Services (CIMS), 1996, www.motherfriendly.org.

The 2004 National Vital Statistics are published by the Center for Disease Control and taken from Births: Final Data for 2004, National Vital Statistics Report Vol. 55, No.1, published 9/29/06.

The Listen to Women Study was compiled by the Maternity Center Association in New York. They explored women's attitudes toward birth and then compared that with the actual events and interventions that occurred. A copy may be downloaded at www.childbirthconnection.org.
