Linda's favorite quote: You do what you are. She does what she is. |

Mary Ann Durbin, CNM,
a life-long resident of Toledo began
observing home births and actively exploring life as a midwife in 1985.
She graduated from The Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing
in 1992 and since then Mary Ann has assisted women as a midwife in the
home, birth center and hospital. She has 5 children, the last three of
whom were born at home, and 2 grandchildren born into her hands at
Birth Care & Women’s Health Birth Center in Alexandria, Virginia. “I feel very strongly that pregnancy and birth are normal events for a woman and her family. Women should be encouraged to take an active role in their prenatal care and not relegate that responsibility to others. The family needs to take responsibility for the care of the pregnant mother before, during and after the birth. I see my role as being a ‘helper’ to that family, a resource person to achieve a healthy baby and a healthy mother.” |

Shelly De Meo Massage Therapist Birth Doula My interest in complimentary healthcare was ignited in 1999 with the introduction of the healing energy of Reiki. While working with clients as a Reiki practitioner I found myself wanting to expand my knowledge in the healing arts and entered into a program to study massage therapy. I am a graduate from the Ann Arbor Institute of Massage Therapy. Certified in several types of therapeutic massage including, Myofascial Release, Neuromuscular Therapy, Pregnancy massage and Sports Massage. I am nationally certified and licensed through the state medical board of Ohio. My approach in a massage therapy deals with integrating several types of techniques from Swedish, to Myofascial, to Neuromuscular depending on your needs and the type of massage you are looking for. I usually incorporate some stretching, joint mobilization, and focus on breath to help provide you with a complete mind-body connection. I offer a firm, gentle touch in a caring and healing atmosphere giving you with the ultimate experience in a relaxing and thorough massage. Through my professional and personal relationships at Mother’s Own Birth Center I found a renewed passion for working with other women during their pregnancy and especially during labor. At Mother’s Own I provide massage therapy to our pregnant clients and often continue to work with them post-natally. I also work as a birth assistant to the midwives at Mother’s Own and am now accepting personal clients where I function as a Birth Doula.
