Our Philosophy of Care

It's your body and your birth. Each woman expresses the creative energy of pregnancy and birth in her own unique and personal way. Our staff believes that for most women pregnancy is a normal, natural life event and should be treated as such. At Mother's Own, the woman is the center of what's happening. It's not the staff, not the equipment, not the routine, just the woman.

Our hallmark is individualized care. We hope to develop a relationship with you and your family where you can express yourself freely while gaining confidence in your ability to give birth. This feeling of confidence should be inspired by a relationship of deep trust built during prenatal visits and the continuing presence of the midwife during labor. In addition to the usual activities of a prenatal visit we provide ample time to discuss your desires and concerns for this birth. We will work with you to help you decide our role in the birth. Birth plans are encouraged.

Our center is designed to be welcoming to you and your family. Your partner and children are always encouraged to attend visits.

Mission Statement

The birth center will be a place of welcome, acceptance,
and nurturing for clients and staff.

We will strive for excellence in care using a blend of current evidence,
experience, intuition, and ancient wisdom.

Flexibility, within safety for the mom, baby, family, and midwives,
will guide us in trying to meet the needs of all involved.

"Imagine that you are a midwife assisting at someone else's birth. Do good without show or fuss. Facilitate what is happening raher than what you think ought to be happening. When the baby is born, the mother will rightly say: 'We did it ourselves.' "

Lao Tzu, The Tao of Leadership (5th century BC)
